The exhibition Object and Memory—to be held at the Frederic Marès Museum—seeks to promote reflection on the human need to preserve the memory of the past.
When: From 20/05/2004 to 26/09/2004
Where: In the city > Frederic Marès Museum
This need is evident in a series of objects that can be traced to or have come into contact with certain individuals or circumstances. The associations that these objects embody and their power to evoke means that they can act as links between the present and past, and keep alive the memory of the individuals or circumstances to which they are connected.

DALLAS — Where else could Romania's former first couple, Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu, mingle with the founder of the Soviet secret police, Feliks Dzerzhinsky, and Gavrilo Princip, the Serbian assassin who helped set in motion World War I? Only in Texas.
Nearly 20 statues of leaders and heroes of authoritarian regimes occupy the rolling private garden of Harlan R. Crow, a Dallas real estate investor. Heavyweights like Stalin, Mao and Lenin stand among lesser-knowns like Klement Gottwald, the first Communist president of Czechoslovakia.

Un veí de Castellfollit de la Roca (Garrotxa) ha obert en aquesta població el primer museu europeu compost de material bèl·lic emprat durant la guerra del Vietnam. En total, s’exposen 2.000 objectes entre armes, cascos i uniformes nord-americans i vietnamites.

El archivo reunido por Horacio Tarcus cuenta con el aporte de unas 100 donaciones anuales. Muchas de las colecciones que posee son de muy difícil acceso. Y otras, directamente, únicas. Hay:
- 800 colecciones de revistas político-culturales argentinas;
- 600 colecciones de revistas políticas argentinas;
- 700 colecciones de periódicos políticos argentinos;
- 500 colecciones de revistas político-culturales extranjeras;
- 60 rollos de microfilms de publicaciones obreras y de izquierda;
- miles de volantes políticos, cartas, manuscritos y folletos;

The Vinland Map must be the world's most contested piece of parchment. Donated to Yale University by the philanthropist Paul Mellon in 1957, the map, which famously describes the Viking discovery of North America, has been stuck in scholarly deadlock ever since. The subject of endless studies and counterstudies, the map is either a rare medieval artifact — the first cartographic representation of the continent — or else a modern fake.
